Story Excerpt: 48 Hours - Short Film

I had the pleasure of taking a screenwriting class this semester which opened my writing psyche. I've always stood in the parameters of short stories - full length novels. Never tried to write a show or film! However my final project for this class was to write a ten to twenty minutes short film It was a hard task for me because I don't usually write in a present tense, I had to catch myself multiple times! LOL

However this experience opened me up to a whole new world and I cannot wait to explore it! I will be writing about two short films and a TV series this year. So that is more writing goals I must accomplish.

Here is the opening scene to my short film

Book Review: Lucky Rice by Danielle Chang

Lucky Rice by Danielle Chang

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

My culture is a big part of who I am today. Many assume that I am just Hispanic, I am. However many do not know I am Cuban - Chinese besides Puerto Rican. Most people are flabbergasted and then proceed to ask questions that are not that easy to answer. See my Chinese culture is still brand new for myself. I am still learning but at the moment my favorite thing is to learn about is food. Who doesn't love food?

I love it!

So that is why I decided to review Lucky Rice and have a unique cookbook.

Lucky Rice is a collection of over a 100 recipes that range from curry to simple white rice. I love how each section is broken up into different categories, to make it simple for an individual to choose. The only issue I have with the book, is not really the cookbook's fault. Since I live in an Hispanic and Caribbean neighborhood, Asian ingredients are hard to come by. The closest store is "Stop and Shop" but even there it is sparingly.

However I recommend this cookbook to anyone who loves some good Chinos and hey they even teach you how to make some good steamed rice. Recommended for all!

Story Excerpt: Blue Blood 2: Chapter 3

“Sorry” Ezekiel mumbled to Isaiah, who was looking at the ceiling and thinking.

“Not your fault Easy. This has to be Ella, who knows that we are closing in on her and her psychopathic girlfriend.” Isaiah seethed.

Isaiah reached up to hit the wall when he groaned in pain. He leaned back down seething when Ezekiel slowly leaned forward.

“Was she always like that Evee doesn’t like to talk about the past much. I think she tries to erase the past and tried to start fresh when we met at Quantico” Ezekiel said as he peered over to his wife.

“Actually if anything the roles should be reversed, Eves was always … precocious in the sense that I am surprised she didn’t murder me over the years, Ella … she was … she was the good one. See Evee she was the troublemaker, being an only child, I was the older one who watched out for them and Ella … she was he good one” Isaiah said as his voice broke.

Ella Reyes was the poster child for the good kid in every family, the golden one and the two others were black sheep or troublemakers. Ella was aspiring to be a teacher, a special needs teacher and instead she murdered her family in cold blood to … Isaiah did not know exactly the way. That was one of his reasons to find her, to find out why she tried to extinguish their line.

“Evee … when I found out who she was, like truly found out, I was flabbergasted at the way she turns on her family. She came up to me and said my name is Evee Diaz, niece to Terrence Reyes, the Don to The Empire” Ezekiel let out a wry chuckle. Evee was a beauty for sure with her dark hair cut short and bright smile. A few hours after that Evee was flipping Ezekiel onto his back on a soft mat during a combat sequence.

From that day forward Ezekiel was intrigued by the girl who had a bubbly personality and the dark history. Fraternizing at Quantico was frowned upon and was told that it should never occur. However when twenty five new recruits start the Bureau was not blind to hormones and emotions running through the camp.  He did his best to keep their relationship strictly friendship.

“What changed?” Isaiah asked enthralled from the start of Ezekiel and Evee.

“She kissed me on the last day of training and said she gets what she wants, always” Ezekiel let out a soft chuckle

Evee grabbed him from behind, pinned him to the wall and placed a lustful kiss onto his lips.

“She became a nuisance, but I just had to find more, she is addicting, a bad fucking habit”.

“If it was against the rules, I mean, how the fuck did you two get married, and how the fuck did we not know about it. I mean when I found out I was livid, I was also shot by my sister and my dad was murdered, but … its like Evee created this whole world, full of lies.

Harry Potter and The Mighty Pen

Harry Potter has always been a part of me since I was a child. I remember when Scholastic Inc. first purchased the rights to sell in the United States. I was about eight and I wrote about it in a article for class. Writing is another thing that has been a big part of all this.

Well cut to the chase flash-forward to September 1st 1998 and two teeth missing, two long braids and a baby blue jansport wearing little girl holding Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. After about three days I completed the first step to an over a decade obsession. JK Rowling opened a creative world inside of me like no one could before. Sure by this point I was writing fan fiction before I even knew what that was. Pokemon and Card Captors stories filled my notebook but Harry Potter fueled my soul.

Harry Potter was thee relatable character of all time, young boy who felt he had no place in the world until his 11th Birthday to find a whole new wold *Cue Aladdin and Jasmine*. Throughout the series he finds different type of friends, deals with different types of loves and finds a family of his own that truly cares for him.  However my favorite character was Miss Hermione Granger. Hermione was such a familiar character to me because she was me. A young know it all girl who had trouble making friends, until she made two great guy friends (Eric & Eli for me lol) and helped them get out of their troubles. Fiercely independent, fought for what she believed in and  is extremely intelligent.

Everyone says that I am Hermione in my own way but they see it clearly. So from that I began to write stories with strong female characters that had intelligence and emotional but stood their ground. Hermione was my heroine and she help create Charlotte, Evee, Isis and many others.

Harry Potter has changed my physical world as well as my creative world. Without seeing a strong writer like JK Rowling maybe I wouldnt be so open as to writing . To see how she made it and see the path she took makes me believe anything is possible.
