Story Excerpt: Breaking Down Part II - Nanowrimo 2014

He threw Cole’s jacket upon the couch and watched the hyper three year old zoom past him.
“Cole!” Daniel scolded and the little boy giggled before collapsing onto the couch.

Grabbing his iPhone from his jacket pocket Daniel dialed his sister’s number. Awaiting the tumulus rings he heard her chipper voice and laughed.

“Mels”

“What is up Twin!” Her laughter bellowed over the phone and he chuckled.

“Auntie Mel it’s me!” Cole yelled from across the room and waved.

Daniel shook his head and walked into his small kitchen and opened a cabinet.

“How is the apartment?”  She asked as he did a 360 degree turn.

“Its … great” He forced out and closed his eyes.

“Just was wondering if you coming into town for my Graduation” He asked.

“Of course as long as you fly to see mines and bring my adorable nephew” Melanie demanded.

“Of course so you will be back in Sound Plains this Saturday?” She hesitated before responding and announced she would be proud to see him graduate.

After a few more minutes of small talk about school and college life they parted goodbyes and Daniel looked around his small kitchen. It wasn’t ideal and it wasn’t what he wanted. It would have to do for now considering his circumstances.

Four years ago he lost the love of his life and only daughter to The Fallen. It angered him inside but he had to keep that part of him in control. Cole didn’t know of that world and right now he wasn’t ready to expose it to him. Thinking of the happy little boy who was probably running amuck in the living room brought a smile to his lips.
Wanting to give him nothing but the best he worked hard over the past four years to graduate from Sound Plains College.

Once he had a degree in his hand he can upgrade from the small apartment and into a bigger and better place. It wasn’t as the apartment was not sufficient; it had the necessity a bathroom, kitchen living room and a bedroom for them to sleep in.

Knowing his parents offered him to stay in their home he just couldn’t bring himself to burden them. They were finally free of children and to bring a newborn into that it wasn’t fair. While he was off to Sound Plains U which was just downtown from his old home. Melanie got in to UCLA way across the United States while he stood behind.

Gabriella and Vincent decided to backpack through the world and learn more. Lia decided to go off to the University of Miami while Theo went Texas of A&M University. It was weird after Charlotte’s death everyone decided to go off their separate ways. No one wanted to stay behind and mourn the death of a loved one. Granted it was a selfish thing because they all decided to be friends but summer came around.

They all started to disappear slowly and tethered away from one another. It used to be four hour long Instant Messaging conversations and emails that were two pages long. Now it was five to ten minute phone conversations and Holiday text messages. Hopefully once everyone graduated they would return home and feel right at last. Hearing the tiny running footsteps he turned to his son who was grinning.

“Daddy tell me a story about Mama”

Daniel scooped the little boy into his lap and played with the tiny curls on his head.

“Well remember when I told you your Mama died giving birth to your sister and we lost her too?” He asked. Cole nodded sadly and pulled at his jeans.

“Well right before she passed she held you in her arms and whispered that she loved you the most” Daniel said as Cole smiled.

“She was pretty right?”

“Way pretty prettier than an Angel”.

Cole laughed and clapped his hands together before running off to play again. It killed Daniel to talk about Charlotte but Cole asked all the time. It was the hardest on him to grow up without his mother. Question constantly flew from his mouth about her and he even asked to look at pictures of her.

He was brought out of his thoughts by a ringing of his phone and noticed it wasn’t a familiar number.

“Hello?”

Missing Snow Days

The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?

Story Excerpt: Note

Note

They say when a person leaves; that a piece of them is still behind.
Is that true?

You’re not going to understand. You never will. The disease I have isn’t commonly accepted as one but I have one. It’s called Depression. You can’t understand because you refuse to try. So here it is in my last goodbye maybe you will read this diary and understand that I was the greatest actress of all time …

September 28th 2007

The bell echoed in the hallway as the lockers slammed shut in unison. Sneakers screeched across the linoleum floor and the heels clicked. Doors slamming shut as the voices faded away. Clutching her binder close to her chest she slowly walked down the hallway.

“Sophie!” She turned on her heel and her best friend was running towards her. “You know you can eat lunch with us, your friends”. The brunette with bleached white tips grinned at the girl holding her binder. “Mayo-“ “No Soph you owe me besides its pizza day … please Soph! Please!” Mayo pouted out her bottom lip and the girl crumbled.

Clapping her hands together in accomplishment the two girls headed to the large cafeteria. She could see them laughing loudly at one another and looking different yet the same. Her crew of friends were a interesting one especially her.

Bracelet Project

The Bracelet Project is something I do once in awhile for support my fellow friends and people. I started doing the Bracelet Project back in 2012 as a way to raise awareness. The dynamic of it all is to support people dealing with these disorders and accepting their road to recovery.
This Holiday season I am going to take it one step further and try to make a 100+ Bracelets for anyone who ask. The Holidays are usually one of the toughest times for people and I think this is perfect way to say someone cares.
