Story Excerpt: Pieces of a Novel

A story I started years ago with no intentions to finish it

-------

Dark gray clouds filled the skies as the sunlight dissipated from the once brighten blue. The rain starts to pour onto the dark black streets as the sounds of honking and skidding fills the neighborhood. You can hear the innocence of children’s laughter as they run down the street into puddles that started to form. The wind blows and cold air takes over the atmosphere barring the streets of people.

She places her hand onto the window of her home and looks down onto the street. The icy cold feeling on her fingertips as the window is fogged up from the steam in her home. She lets her hand falter a little and pulls away leaving behind her hand-print.  She walks across her carpeted floor bare footed and looks back at the window. Her hand print still visible as it slowly started to fog once again.

A small smile evidently left on her lips as she opens the door to her darkened room and crawls back into bed. Her comforter engulfing her in as her eyes starts to shut as the noisy buzz from the TV let her fall into her slumber. The loud noise of a ringing makes her shoot up from her bed and grabs the annoyance of the moment. “Hello” Her voice whispered still asleep but sweetly.

Hi” He speaks and her head drops a little as she runs a hand through her dark curly hair. “I thought I told you not to call me anymore” She spoke sharply as anger filled through her body. She was now sitting against the headboard of her bed legs crossed and the phone gripped in her hands. “I just needed to talk to you … please Gen” He began. “Goodbye Nicholas” Gen began.

No wait Gens please” he begged as he knew that her patience was running thin with him. “What?” Gen said as she glanced at what the TV was playing. The music station was on and she watched the screen change onto a new song and she cursed in her head silently. The song started to play and it entranced her ignoring the banter coming from the phone.

The words of Kelly Clarkson’s addicted started to swirl around Gen and the tears started to fill her eyes

And I know I let you have all the power, And I realize I'm never gonna quit you over time, It's like I can't breathe, It's like I can't see anything, Nothing but you, I'm addicted to you, It's like I can't think, Without you interrupting me, In my thoughts, In my dreams, You've taken over me, It's like I'm not me, It's like I'm not me”.

Gens … Babe?” Nicholas asked breaking Gen from her world. “Don’t say that to me don’t call me babe, Gens or Genny, Nicholas we aren’t friends anymore” Gen said and changed the TV station onto nonsense cartoons. “Gen please give me another chance to prove” Nicholas begged. “To prove what exactly Nicholas betrayal, pain, disappointment perhaps” Gen said bitterly.

Her voice was laced with venom and Nicholas could hear it with each word she spoke. He involuntary shivered every time she spoke to him like this. Nicholas knew of his mistakes he constantly made but he needed her as his best friend again. He rubbed his face as frustration was starting to grow within him but bit his tongue. “Gens … I need you” Nicholas said easily. “Well Nick I need my life back” Gen said and pressed the end button.

The call was disconnected as their friendship neither was satisfied where they were left. Gen looked back at the television the brightly colors of the cartoons danced across the screen but she could not see with her blurred vision as tears cascaded down her face.

Book Review: Fix by Force by Jason Warne

Fix by Force by Jason Warne

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Warning: Book contains Drug Usage, Slight Language and Gun Violence

I first wanted to read this book simply because I found the cover and title intriguing. Naturally it is not my genre of choice. My taste dabbles in Teen Fantasy and Romance. Mostly Angels and Demons but something about this book told me to choose it. Flipping through the pages I was astonished to see it was about thirty six chapters long but after a few minutes you've come to realize they are not very long.

When I first started reading this book I was amazed by it power and emotion. Spencer Shane is a high school senior who feels meaningless in life and incapacitated to change his circumstances. He lives in a highly dysfunctional family with a verbally, emotionally and physically abusive mother. To top it off  he is also being bullied at school. Spencer feels he is unaccompanied in the world  with no one he can turn to for help and a sense of safety and love.

His pain, and his greatest fear is of turning into his much-hated father. Spencer realizes he needs to take action to turn his life around, but he is looking for a quick fix with direct results, no matter the outcomes. Although Spencer create a lot of his own disaster, his cognition to acquire to take control and obligation for his actions is huge. Its a lesson very few learn in life. Choices have consequences and some of them last a lifetime.

Story Excerpt: Full Circle - Prologue

You ever wonder how two people, from two different worlds, crash into one another?

Yeah so did she!

The wind gusted through the trees and the girl tugged at her scarf from flying away. Here she was at Rowling University the School of Arts. Her scarf became erratic again and she sighed at how quick the moment disappeared. She could see four smaller buildings diagonally from one another each a little different. Smiling with glee she ventured towards a building that was made of reflecting glass. Surely this was Guston Hall where her first class of the day was located.

Stopping at a large metal blue door with a silver number four she hesitated before reaching for the knob. She got rid of the large mammoth butterflies churning in her stomach and opened the door. The loud metal screeched across the floor as the Professor stop speaking. He was a short stocky man with white hair holding a piece of chalk in his hand and seem to be far into his lesson.

Welcome to Biology 206, Name?” He pondered crossing his arms and tapped his foot. “Biology? Is this not Guston Hall?” Her voice trembled as she realized she was in the wrong classroom in the wrong building. “My Dear this is Walt Hall, you are across the Quad and about ten minutes late” He lectured as he turned around to his work on the board.

She took in a shaky breathe before scanning the room of faces and seeing no sympathy among them. Escaping the panic attack that was about to start she returned to her previous spot. Sighing at the far distance she would have to walk now she began her walk to Guston Hall. She could skip her first class and endure her second class of Spanish Literature.

Knowing that she would regret missing Painting she would just suck it up and make it to her class with pride. As she passed the third building her mood elevated and saw the old red brick building. Taking in the orange leaves on the ground and large brown limber trees it screamed Art building. She began to jog towards the door when the cream scarf decided to escape from her neck.

She gasped at the action and ran after the whirling scarf as it stopped at the foot of a young man. He picked up the scarf and smiled at the girl who just shyly smiled back at him. “May I have that back?” Her voice came out a little strong and frustrated at him. “Sure here” He said and passed it to her. She felt an instant spark from him and her cheeks tinted pink.

Just don’t let it slip away again you will never know whose hands it may fall in” He teased as he began to walk away. “Uh Thanks” She called back and he winked at her. He walked towards two guys who were waiting for him and she walked towards the building. She took one glance back to where he was walking away with his friends and she shivered.

Poetry: Dreams

Dreams

Everyone dreams;
Everyone has a dream;
Now the question is …
Is it possible to make a dream a reality?

How hard does one must wish?
How hard does one must want?
Dreams are endless possibilities
with endless overbearing obstacles.

Are you willing to sacrifice all of your everything’s
For the possibilities of receiving nothings.
Or will you continue to dream wonderful wishes
For the hunger of what ifs.

Everyone dreams;
Everyone has a dream;
Now the question is …
Will you dream or Achieve?

Story Excerpt: Diamond Kisses - Chapter 1

Something I began years ago but never continued but reading it now I might re-do it :)

 August 20th

Gasping for breath as their swollen lips separated from one another. Skin hot to touch under their fingertips as foreheads touched. He couldn’t seem to get enough of her kisses, her taste or her scent. His lips started to place butterfly kiss down her collar bone to her shoulder where a turquoise butterfly tattoo was exposed.

The gasp of pleasure left her plump lips as his hands grasped her waist pulling her closer to him. She backed away as his fingers slipped through her chocolate curly locks.  “Malakai I can’t” She whispered as she moved further away. There they were in a car secretly making out as if they were teenagers but they were far from it. Malakai James a twenty five year old fire fighter was currently sneaking around with his high school sweet heart who happened to be his ex wife Mackenzie Diaz. He could see her mouth moving but the words could not get higher in volume I was like he was memorized.

He looked down at his left hand as the gold band illuminated brighter in this night sky the moon light seeping in through the car window. His wife Tracey was the complete opposite of Mackenzie one in look wise and then personality. Tracey was a tall slender dark skinned with short dark straight hair while Mackenzie was a shorter curvy tanned skin with long chocolate brown curls. Tracey! His wife of two years the mother of his son Peter, his care taker, his partner for life but she wasn’t Mackenzie his soul mate.

Malakai !” Mackenzie screamed slapping his shoulder grabbing his attention back to her. “Yeah Mac” He said as he ran a hand across his face. “We can’t keep doing this! I can’t be the other woman to you anymore I have to go I’m sorry” Mackenzie said as she jumped out the car fighting back the tears. “Wait! Mac wait please” Malakai begged doing the same thing grabbing her wrist to stop her.

I love you” Malakai choked out as he felt the tears brims his eyes. He was actually stuck in between his wife and the other woman but believe it or not the other woman was winning. “Malakai I love you too but you're married we are the past; she is your future” Mackenzie said as she walked away from Malakai for the last time.

August 23th

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Peter, Happy Birthday to you!” As the group sang around a young little boy turning four smiled with glee. Malakai watched his son laugh loudly while all the kids screamed asking for cake and ice cream. Malakai hugged his wife who kissed his cheek before walking back into their house to get the knife and plates.

Daddy!” Peter screamed jumping towards his dad wearing a Bob the Builder party hat and a stained shirt. “Mark put icing on me” Peter said with a frown. “Its ok buddy” Malakai said and started cleaning up his son’s shirt. “Daddy!” He heard a young girl voice in his ear. Malakai felt his heart in his throat as his hands started to sweat.

It couldn’t be but there she was Isabella his daughter dressed in a purple summer dress and long brown curls. Malakai had the biggest smile on his face when he picked up the little girl twirling her around happily. He couldn’t believe it there she was his little girl in his arms in his home at his son’s birthday. “Daddy Tia Erika* brought me” Isabella said pointing to a young woman standing by the doorway dressed in a blue summer dress.

Erika* Diaz, Mackenzie’s oldest sister stood there with a scowl on her face glaring at Malakai . “Okay say hi to your little brother Izzy” Malakai said placing the girl onto the floor. Isabella and Peter stared at each other awkwardly before smiling each other. Malakai quickly walked up to Erika* who just glared at him as he smiled. “Mac isn’t here with me” Erika* said knowing the words that were about to leave his mouth. “Well where is she?” Malakai asked before shoving his hands in his pocket.

I don’t know” Erika* said as her eyes met his for the first time. “What are you talking about?” Malakai asked. “She is missing Kai, we cant find her we told Izzy she went on a vacation, Kai where is my little sister?” Erika* demanded as he finally could see the fear.

Story Excerpt: Blue Blood - Chapter 7

***

Evee sat in her apartment her head bandage and her knees to her chest. She was fresh out the shower her Mickey Mouse tanktop clung to her skin while her red shorts seemed pale in comparison. Her eyes sullen and her face white as a sheet. The incessant tone of her blackberry going off phone calls, text messages, BBM but she ignored it all.

This wasn’t supposed to be like this, her whole life she aspired to be on top, to rule the world. Yet she was cowardly hiding out in her dimly lit apartment. She had the best view, the glamorous clothes, the prestigious lifestyle but it didn’t fill that guilt in her soul. She wanted power and she definitely got it but it was too much.

Wishing to not hold her secret anymore to just walk onto her balcony and scream it from her lungs. She couldn’t it already harmed people, people died because of it. The shooting shouldn’t have happened, funerals wouldn’t start and mothers wouldn’t be crying. She could see the faces of tears as they gathered around bodies.

What happened to emotionless Evee? What happened to the girl who barely even batted an eye when Landon died and stifled a yawn about Amelia. Now she was a nervous wreck in her bedroom over her harboring secret. She was losing her damn mind she could feel the guilt tightening around her throat but it vanished with the loud thuds.

Knocking on her door didn’t surprise her but the voice did and she knew that voice too well. It lulled her to sleep on nights when her terrors got the best of her, it scolded her eating habits or when she over shopped, it let out a contagious laughter when she was upset. She leaped from her bed to the door unlatching the many locks.

Ezekiel leaned against the frame holding a solitary blue rose and a frown. “Easy I thought they hurt you” She whispered but he just enveloped her into a hug. “No I just walked away from it, I just had to think about you Evee” He whispered in her ear. She pulled away from him letting her fingertips touch his face loving. “Its to dangerous, I need to get out Easy” Evee said and pulled away from him.
